Get your family vacation time in now, because before you know it, it’ll be time for the kiddos to head back to school!
Although there are so many things in Ocean City to do during the month of August, we have one in particular that you won’t want to miss! Of course, there is the White Marlin Open Tournament, the ArtX show, and tons of different free family fun… but something unique is coming to town, and we want you to take advantage of this rare opportunity!
From August 22-29, venture over to 3rd street and Chicago Ave. on the Bay in town to see the Draken Viking Ship! Relive history in ways you never have before, and explore the marvel Viking ship. You can even interact with the crew while they share their personal stories from reliving one of the world’s most mythical sea voyages, the first transatlantic crossing, and the Viking discovery of the New World.
The Draken measures a striking 150 ft long and has a massive red sail suspended from a mast that is 79 ft tall. The ship was built to all the same specifications, using the same technology as the Vikings used back in its era (between 750 A.D. and 1100 A.D.), and includes the head and tail of a dragon.
The ship’s East Coast Tour of 2018, Expedition America, started July 9 leaving out of Mystic Seaport, CT. Throughout the tour, the ship will visit 14 different harbors throughout the East Coast from Maine to South Carolina.
Welcome Captain Bjorn Ahlanders and crew at the ship’s stop in Ocean City as they arrive around 5 pm Wednesday, Aug. 22. From Aug. 23 to Aug. 29, the Draken and Draken Village will be open to the public from 10 am – 8 pm, weather permitting! The Draken Village will include a Draken photo & video exhibit, official merchandise sales, deck tour tickets sales, and local food & beverage vendors.
So make a visit to the Draken during its eight-day stay. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will regret missing! Be sure to book your vacation rental with Hileman Real Estate. If you’re staying downtown near the ship, you have no excuse. If you’re staying uptown, you still have no excuse! Turn your trip downtown into a night full of dining out and boardwalk fun.
